WYLER WOLF

I was born Wyler Diome-Montour, but on stage I go by Wyler Wolf. I'm an Indigenous multimedia artist from Kahnawake, a Mohawk Territory near Montreal. My practice is rooted in the honest portrayal of the discovery of the self and the confrontation between struggle and growth. Heavily influenced by the idea of chiaroscuro, I often create with the negative space afforded to me by shadow, both sonically and aesthetically.

"Water By My Bed" is an unadulterated introspection on loneliness, longing, Indigenous identity, and the experience of growing up as a member of a seldom represented people. It's a collection of music written to serves as both narrative, and journal of my journey through mountaintop highs and canyon-like lows in the past two years. Despite the fact that I've spent most of my life between what I thought were two worlds. One rooted in my Identity as kanienʼkehá꞉ka and the other in my identity as an artist. I've found that every aspect of myself is a mirror of all that I have ever been and ever will be again.

As a means of achieving something special with my first record I'll be uploading songs as a pre-release in their raw unfinished form on this site only in order to garner opinions and feedback. I want to include people in the process of making this album not just as listeners but as collaborators as well.
